I was wondering what's all about Cheera Mulaku Biriyani when some of our Food N Travel friends suggested this name to me. When tried it out, it's usual Malabar Biriyani served with cheera mulaku (kanthari mulaku or bird's eye chillie). It's served in a small restaurant on the way to Wayanad from Kozhikode at Nellamkandy in Thamarassery. Biriyani is good and when tasted with cheera mulaku, it's pretty different from the usual taste. I would have loved it even more if it had a bit more flavour of ghee. എന്നോട് കോഴിക്കോട് ഉള്ള ഒരു സുഹൃത്ത് ചീരാമുളക്‌ ബിരിയാണി എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ സംഭവം എന്താണ് എന്നുള്ള ഒരു ആകാംക്ഷ എന്നിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ കോഴിക്കോട് നിന്ന് വയനാട് പോണ വഴി നെല്ലാങ്കണ്ടി എന്ന സ്ഥലത്താണ് സംഭവം. ചീരാമുളക്‌ എന്നത് കാന്താരി മുളകിന്റെ മറ്റൊരു പേര് ആണ് എന്നും, ബിരിയാണിയുടെ കൂടെ ഇത് കൂട്ടാൻ കൊടുക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഈ പേര് വന്നത് എന്നും പിന്നീട് ആണ് മനസ്സിലായത്. ബിരിയാണി ഒരു ഇടത്തരത്തിൽ നല്ല ഒരു ബിരിയാണി, ചെറിയ ഒരു ചായക്കട, സാധാരണക്കാര് പോയി കഴിക്കുന്ന ഒരു രുചി. നെയ്യുടെ രുചി ഒരല്പംകൂടി ആവാം; എങ്കിലും കൊള്ളാം.
